Advocacy and Campaigns

The Young Voices Programme targets youths with disabilities between the ages of 16 to 25. The programme seeks to build capacities of youths with disabilities to influence positive policy change that is geared towards their inclusion in mainstream culture, social and economic activities in Zimbabwe, which they have been often excluded from. The thrust is to empower them using the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. There are 3 Groups which are based in Harare, Chitungwiza and Bulawayo. These three groups have a membership of 30 (each) youths with various disabilities. They meet on a monthly basis to discuss various topical issues that affect them or attend trainings. They also participate in various campaigns such as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities & Day of the African Child among others. They also advocate for their rights in various ways such as through print and electronic media like newspapers, radio and internet.
