Strengthening Civil Society Regional Partnerships in favour of the Ratification, Domestication and Implementation of the African Disability Protocol (ADP)

The Strengthening Civil Society Regional Partnerships in favour of the Ratification, Domestication and Implementation of the African Disability Protocol (ADP) is a regional initiative implemented in Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The project works to strengthen civil society, empower Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs), and influence policies and systems so that persons with disabilities can fully enjoy their human rights and fundamental freedoms.

Our Partners

The project is co-funded by the European Union Delegation to Zambia and COMESA, and implemented through a regional consortium led by Leonard Cheshire Disability Zimbabwe (LCDZ) and partnering Development Aid from People to People (DAPP) Zimbabwe; DAPP Zambia and Cheshire Homes Society of Zambia; and DAPP Malawi and Human Rights of Women and Girls with Disabilities in Malawi (WAG-Disability Rights).

Implementation Sites

In Zimbabwe, the project works in 10 districts across Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland East, Masvingo, Midlands and Matabeleland South Provinces. In Zambia, it covers five districts across Lusaka, Copperbelt and Eastern Provinces. In Malawi, implementation takes place in Lilongwe and Dowa districts in the Central Region.

How we are creating change

The project combines a human rights-based and participatory approach with policy dialogue, evidence-based advocacy, capacity strengthening, public awareness, civic education, mentorship, research and community engagement. By strengthening OPDs and CSOs while engaging decision-makers and communities, the project is building stronger voices for disability rights and contributing to accelerated implementation of the ADP across the three countries.
